Utilising the The Hive Business Space, we have access to the uncontended internet and great facilities in a central location.
Encouraging kids to interact and socialise, rather than socialising through online systems and non-face-face interactions. The event is designed so that participants will experience a safe, welcoming and competitive forum for entertainment, fun and excitement.
All the necessary equipment (games, consoles, and controllers) will be provided. If participants would rather use their own controller, they are encouraged to bring them.
The goal for each participant is to win the race/game or get the most number of points in the allocated time. The individual with the most wins/points will be rewarded with prizes at the conclusion of the event as well as being named ‘The Player’.
We aim to encourage positive relationships and team building skills among the youth, by hosting an event where kids of similar interest are able to interact with each other in an environment they are somewhat familiar with.
The concept is something that Landan, Riley and I have been working on since June this year. It started from a conversation (or my frustration) about things to do for gamers on the school holidays. We believe there are a lot of opportunities for careers in this industry in the future and right now we don’t even know what they all are. The Military are already recruiting gamers as part of their strategic war planning and practices.
We then decided to put in a community grant application to Sunshine Coast council and we were successfully granted $500 towards our first event. We started to get sponsors on board and the media have shown us a lot of support.
We hope this can be a regular event every school holidays and that you will join us for the journey. As a volunteer you will be supporting a bigger objective of supporting and encouraging teens to interact and socialise in person, rather than socialising through online systems and non-face-face interactions. The Player is designed so that participants will experience a safe, welcoming and competitive forum for entertainment, fun and excitement.
